Written during a stretch of unemployment, the author set out to explore what it means to find satisfaction, meaning, and purpose in the world. If life is just a snap of light between two eternities of darkness, what purpose can we manufacture out of this brief, aware, alive, interlude? The answers, she finds, are right in front of our nose.

The author is smart, funny, and possesses an insight and intelligence that allows her to break down complex thoughts and situations, and present them plainly and simply, with wit, charm, and poignancy.Known on Twitter as KStreetHipster, this former lobbyist prodigiously, and effectively, opines on politics, and social issues (among other topics) there. Her book is a peek into the more playful, contemplative, and questioning side of a woman who has gained thousands of followers who appreciate her skill and precision in dissecting and discussing weighty matters 140 characters at a time.Be prepared to laugh one moment, be saddened another, and left pondering the nature of existence a third, all in the space of a single page. From the introduction, where I personally identified so strongly with the questions she raises as to the nature and struggle of finding our own truths, separate from the scripts and expectations forced upon us from birth, to the snippets of whimsy, seriousness, and near stream of consciousness bits of randomness, to the final section of the book, Small Town Verses, I was constantly surprised, entertained, provoked, and ultimately impressed and quite happy that I was fortunate enough to read this bookIs it perfect? No, not at all.Is it great, grand literature? Nope.Is it worth your money, and more importantly, your time? Absolutely. One small little bit near the end encapsulates, for me, the subtle depth and breadth of what can easily be dismissed as lightweight by those not inclined to appreciate writing that is clear, direct, and simple. It's a part of the Small Town Verses; the story, in a few sentences, of a woman who does what she has to do in order to fulfill a dream, and the reality of what that effort has gained her. With a small glimpse into the life of a character introduced and explained in a minute's read, a complete tale of human tragedy, condensed, Tess Kovach deftly displays the underlying brilliance of her mind, which she has thankfully chosen to share in this book.

Two, I needed to spend a few more dollars to qualify for Amazon's free "whenever" shipping. I was pleasantly surprised! I am not a big poetry reader and I haven't voluntarily read any literature since I dropped out of community college some 5 years ago. This book was worth the money I paid for it. A fresh, witty glimpse into the author's mind. I hope the author never has the opportunity (read: unemployment) to write another book. And I can't wait for her to return from her Twitter hiatus.

At times angst dosed with a bit of hope. At other times she thoughtfully mocks the rigidity of modern American mores, complacency and cultural schizophrenia. An enjoyable romp through a brutally honest eye as she deconstructs modern America. It's done with a surgical laser at times, then moments later there's a playful look at the mundane. A smart, fun and thought provoking read. Will it change the world? Doubtful. Will it seduce you with a wink,a nod and a sly smile?? Yes.
