By Ben Eads Dark Parchments does what every good poetry collection should: elicit emotions from the reader they didn’t even know they had, or worse, forgotten. Or, as is the case with this collection, send shivers up our spines as we’re treated to dark, horrible things that dwell in the darkest depths of nature—but sometimes that very darkness lies within us.I haven’t read poetry in too many years to count. However, I’ve read three poetry collections this year and each one has left me embarrassed for this transgression. As the author of the foreword asks, “Where are the lyrical poets of today?” Mr. Hanson has proved that not only can he write lyrical poetry, but poetry that speaks directly to our heart—forcing us to look in the mirror for what ails us, challenges us.To say this collection of poetry is emotive would be an understatement. Mr. Hanson’s fine collection will have you looking over your shoulder during an evening stroll; second guess our sanity when the rain falls…and is that something squirming right outside my window? One thing is certain, it’s a top-rate collection from an author whose career is destined to be a long one. Words have power…and the author understands this better than most of us. It’s one of the highest compliments I can give.

If You Die Tonight, This Is What You'll Dream By Jessica Salmonson I've been reading DARK PARCHMENTS with considerable delight, a collection of sinister poetry that is a throw-back to an age of impassioned angst enclosed by rhyme and structure, all wondrously gloomy. These are great poems to be sad with, but also to raise in the reader an aesthetic feeling, or even a cruel laugh. In "She Dreams of Ravens" we learn of "strange dark-winged vigilantes" of Romanticist reflection; or the whimsically grotesque ruminations of the "Nevada Test Site Mannequins" filled with their own likely-misplaced sense superiority. The quality of the trade paperback is also pleasing.

I envy the author because I wish I had written some of those poems. They were that good. The six that stood out in this reviewer's mind was: "Coming Home," "Working Class Apotheosis," "Shunned," "Aging Poet In a Soho Tavern," "Wisdom From An Itinerant L.A. Guru," and "The Tapestry." These and others show the author's insight into human nature as well as the magical and dark side of life. It is truly difficult to tell stories in the form of the short poem, but Michael Hanson did it magnificently. There are strains of Poe as well as existentialism that run through his poetry. I most certainly recommend this collection to anyone interested in quality poetry.

We live in very exciting and dangerous times. Using lyrical and witty satirical verses the author captures the essence of our time using the more intriguing people, sizzling issues and noteworthy events in recent memory, some are set on a global scale. This includes sports superstars, movers and shakers of society, issues like crime, saving the earth and etiquette, the World Cup and National Elections events. Identities are sometimes disguised so you will need to figure out who is “The Art of the Dealer”, “Don on the Run” or “A Dancing Dragon”? Forty creative pieces in all for you to peruse and enjoy, to provoke thought yet bringing lightheartedness to cope without trying to escape….in times like these. Excerpts: The Art of the Dealer He blows his own loud trumpet He is more popular than Donald Duck He is rich! The most famous billionaire on earth Having many towering achievements and accolades His name is all over the planet way up in lights He is in the game with a full hand from the deck He is no illusionist but what will the cards reveal? He has fired up the race some say creating a circus Others say his entry into the race is for the better He’s bold, full of bluster, but will he blunder? He is the real deal even from the crown of his head He is not in the game for money nor just to entertain He wants America to be a great nation again The Don is used to having his way at the top But running independently could trump the party. Privacy Rights: Public Controversy Nowadays we have sophisticated locks and bolts Yet we have no privacy because of sneaky folks, They want to get information that is of little use They claim it is for our good which make us confused…… Election: The Silly Season The election season is the time When sane people say silly things And sillier people believe The prudent will remain silent The crafty will bet on both sides………….. Crime: Violence in the Streets They are murdering people in the streets Blood is flowing in the gutter like a stream, Even shooting children on the playgrounds People wonder where peace can be found……

A most interesting read By Mana G This is a most interesting read. The first few poems did catch me a bit off guard but I found this to be an overall delightful collection of poetry. The selection of topics, although seemingly large, is condensed and relative to each other while also being thought provoking and bold. It left me as a reader to think more about the content inside. There were at times that I found the words to be a bit too bold but that merely added to the personality of this collection and to the author’s existence. Of course, being human, his opinions and my opinions on subjects of the world differ, but it was refreshing to see such an honest view in the form of prose.Grammar-wise, the writing checks out. I don’t claim to be a poetry specialist but I didn’t find any periods out of place so props to the author for that. The meter of the majority of the poems was steady too, making it enjoyable. As I said before- it is a most interesting read.

He’s richer and I don’t think he’s in it for the money. He is great at getting attention and with his radical views on immigration, I don’t think he wants to win. I’ll have to disagree with the part about him not being an illusionist and we will see his true intent soon. He is used to having things his way and if he is successful in becoming the head honcho, the world will be very, very interesting. We really are living in some times and the author has an interesting perspective on current events. “Very creative,” I say. Especially with the analogies of the lightning and the bullet (Gatlin and Bolt). This has been a fun read.

Remnants of Severed Chains, by Kyrian Lyndon

About the Author Kyrian Lyndon is the author of A Dark Rose Blooms, a book of thirty poems with an excerpt from the first book of her forthcoming Deadly Veils series. She is also the owner of Moonlit Dawn Publications, LLC. Kyrian began writing short stories and fairy tales when she was just eight years old. In her adolescence, she moved on to poetry. At sixteen, while working as an editor for her high school newspaper, she wrote her first novel, and then completed two more novels at the ages of nineteen and twenty-five. She is forthcoming about being a person with many years of recovery, as well as a trauma survivor. Throughout her journeys, she expressed her thoughts through poetry, embracing every challenge to triumph over adversity. In her conviction that learning, growing, healing, and evolving is a never-ending process, she remains as grateful for the dark days as she is for every flicker of hope and light. She considers herself a cheerleader for those trudging on against all odds in the hopes of living their dreams. Born and raised in Woodside, Queens, New York, Kyrian was the middle of three daughters born to immigrants --her father from Campochiaro, Italy; her mother from Havana, Cuba. She has worked primarily in executive-level administrative positions with major New York publishing companies. Kyrian has completed another book for release this fall: Deadly Veils Book One: Provenance of Bondage, the first novel of her fiction series. Additional projects and collaborations are in the works. Kyrian loves nineteenth-century British literature, parallel universe fiction, and dark romanticism. She also enjoys music, art, history, fitness, and cooking.

When I was young, I'd open my Bruce Springsteen albums and immediately go to the lyrics page. While I loved Springsteen's music, I was intrigued by his poetry put to music. I'd study the words over and over again, saying them outloud in my head. It was beautiful. I found the same experience reading Kyrian Lyndon's Remnants of Severed Chains. It's a book of poems that focuses on love, love lost, love perhaps to be gained and healing. Ms. Lyndon talks about healing in her foreword, too. It's obvious she had challenges in her past and is continuing on her road to recovery.Silence The Voice is a short, simple yet profound work of art. She writes of a long ago voice haunting her. She speaks of how she will overcome it. In We Go On, Ms. Lyndon continues the battle, encouraging the reader to fight through their own personal battles, and find peace. She is positive too with her lyrics. I hear them in my head to soft music. Perhaps it's on a snowy evening while taking a walk near the ocean or bay. Or maybe it's alone on a deserted small town street.I'll read it again. Some words are already prevalent in my mind, in my day, motivating me, inspiring me to forge ahead against life's daily challenges.

The words of many of the poems speak to me with such feeling and emotion. I was mesmerized from the Preface. The poetry is simple to read, the emotions each poem creates is one that is lovable, intense, overpowering and more. I look forward to rereading Remnants of Severed Chains and sharing it with others I feel will enjoy it as well. I am anxious to read Ms. Lyndon's next book. She seems to make the words come to life and the story/poem touches my heart and soul. Excellent Writer!

Makes a great gift. More than your money’s worth! This poetry touches on a broad expanse of feelings and experiences that will make you laugh and cry, sometimes both at the same time. It’s a perfect book to keep by the bedside or your favorite chair. You will be touched by each and every one. Excerpts from Transcendental Highway: WHEN DRAGONS MATE … Does anyone really know just what happens when dragons mate? DOWN THE URBAN TRAIL …Overhead, three noisy geese, free as you please, as insolent as if they were twenty, announce their imminent landing at the county water control pond. Not all of us are on the leash, yet. JUST STATIC (SONNET) …but Nirvana’s been down on her luck lately and still needs a fix. Getting past that third chakra’s just a bitch.

By oldbuck If you are looking for fast moving, fun filled, quality, 21st Century "poetry" you've just found it. If you are a parent "Since He Was A Child" is worth the price of the book and there are dozens more. Probably no one that buys this will enjoy "every poem" that's just not what poetry is about. Poetry is more like "scratching where it itches". Sometimes it's right on the mark and sometimes you need to move on. Buy it, enjoy it and pass the word along. You and your friends will be glad you did.
