About the Author Melanie Thomason survived a difficult childhood in Mississippi before striking out on her own in New Orleans, Louisiana during her early teenage years. The poems are direct, honest and without self-pity. Ms. Thomason's words are powerful, brave and sometimes heartbreaking, but there is an underlying strength that runs through her work. This book would be extremely helpful to anyone who has experienced sexual abuse as a child. It is a book written from personal experience, a book that should be read by everyone, so they can better understand what children go through when they are young, powerless, helpless and unable to escape.

By Roxan Chen The long awaited second book by Melanie Thomason, Moonpies and Naugahyde was worth the impatient wait.A page turner, raw, blunt, heartfelt, evocative, it takes one through a very rough ride of a childhood admirably survived in spite of the unspeakable. Touching, shocking and extremely well-written, Moonpies and Naugahyde is an enjoyable must-read and makes for a fine coffee-table book (with its appealing art!) and is a very fine gift.Roxan Chen Union, NJ, USA
