Most up to dat state of the art of western haibun writing By Amazon Customer Journeys 2015 undoubtedly presents the most op to date state of the art of western haibun writing. As I know from own experience Angelee Deodhar, herself well known and respected as a fine haiku poet and author of haibun, contacted the authors whose work, she felt, should be included. She then meticulously selected from their previously published work the five haibun she ranked as their best. This of course also means that all haibun in Journeys 2015 have at least twice been approved by qualified editors and/or publishers. The result is a collection showing the wide variety of styles and subject matter that can be convincingly dealt with in this old, but for western writers and reader rather new literary format.

This is a wonderful collection of modern haibun in English By Michael Rehling This is a wonderful collection of modern haibun in English, but it also contains thoughtful commentaries on the evolution of the form itself. That alone would make this a standout collection for anyone interested in Japanese poetic forms, and their English adaptations. This anthology reviews the historical evolution of haibun, and provides the reader with outstanding examples of the form. Want to learn more? This book would be a wonderful starting point for anyone interested in haibun. A wonderfully enjoyable read.

The different voices heard here ensure that it is never overwhelming to read so many Haibun. It also charts the development of the literary form by separating the contributors as early/contemporary, which is an added bonus. The introductions and brief biographies are both useful and insightful. All in all, a great reference for those new to/proficient in writing/studying/reading Haibun.
