About the Author Scott T. About the Author Judith Cordary has published widely in small journals, especially the Beloit Poetry Journal, and her first collection, An Ordinary Radiance, was published by dogear press in 2014. She taught English at Rock Valley College for twenty years and won its Teacher of the Year there in 2002. Thereupon, she and her husband, Phil, moved to Longmont, Colorado, where they live with their three Goldens, Shiloh, Shea, and Noelle. Their son, Ethan, lives and works in Palo Alto. Judith volunteers as a Patient Ambassador at the assisted living facility she calls Applecrest in this book; her work entails advocating on behalf of residents.

Beautifully crafted poems of joy and care By Philip Straffin These beautifully crafted poems talk about the insights, and the joy, we can find in the outdoors, in the play of light, in music, in a new puppy, in working with people trying to keep dignity in the institutional setting of an assisted living facility. The poet's voice can vary from deep and warm to light and funny, but there is always careful attention to language and rhythm, and always sympathy for the human condition. I read the poems slowly, with great pleasure, and gratitude.

Peace Disclaimer: I was given a copy of this novel by the publisher in return for an honest review.Lost in Time is the fascinating story of retired New Zealand detective Phillip Maynard’s search for Bob Gardener, a World War ll Spitfire pilot supposedly lost when his Spit ditched in the sea. Only Bob’s son Robert and his mother Andrea don’t believe Bob died that day. They believe he’s only lost somewhere, waiting for someone to find him. When young Robert fortuitously saves the life of Phillip Maynard, he finds the man who can help him locate his dad and bring him home.This novel is full of twists and turns. It recounts the adventures of several characters through various timelines – the 18th Century, the 20th, and the 21st. The reader is transported along with our time voyagers to Trillinghurst Farm in its various incarnations through time as Maynard searches for his quarry. The Spitfire becomes a focal point, but will Bob Gardener wish to return to his wife and young son in 1941?I really enjoyed the story and have read other works by this author, who has a knack of creating vivid images of times gone by. I wanted to give this book the 5 stars the story deserves but I’m afraid the editing lets it down a little. There were typos and errors which the copy editor should have caught, and in my opinion, the writing itself could have done with tightening. But please don’t let that put you off buying the book. It’s a great read and deserves a wide audience. Recommended for anyone who likes adventure, mystery, gentle romance and time travel.

0 of 0 people found the following review helpful. A strange but eerily satisfying book. By Shirley Schwartz I received this book as an early review copy. It's difficult to categorize this book. Is it historical, supernatural, a love story or a study of humanity? Philip Maynard is the main character and we see him at first relocated from New Zealand to England after the death of his wife. He is a retired police inspector and he has returned to the town in England where he grew up in order to try to rediscover his roots. He meets a strange young man in a very classic car as he crashes into a hedgerow near his rented home. This starts him on a journey that covers 200 years. Philip finds that he isn't the only one who is journeying through time while on his very strange and liberating travels. He meets a young RAF air force pilot from the second world war, an English lord in the 18th century and two remarkable women to name a few. I found the book a bit difficult to follow as it jumped from time frame to time frame and from character to character, but in the end, when I finished, I felt strangely satisfied. I think Mr. Jenner accomplished what he set out to do with this book - at least with me anyway. I would recommend this book to those who like flights of fancy in their reading life. The strong characters help to elevate the book from the supernatural to the real and human.

Poetry That Touches the Soul of a Woman By Betty Zeitz Joan Hough Harrington's marvelous book, Twists and Turns in the Hearts, Minds, and Lives of Women, is made up of her expressive poetry and an addendum of prose, that speak directly to all women on that basic, primitive level that is the quintessential female. When the reader begins her journey through the book, she finds herself saying, "Yesssssss!! I've done just such a thing, or felt just such an emotion!" Or if not, we can still identify and sympathize with the poetic subject. Her poems connect with women on a visceral level. She has known great love and great loss (many times), and expressing her unbearable grief through poetry was undoubtedly therapy for her that serendipitously allows us to channel our own personal grief through those same poems. Joan's poems span the years from childhood to her current 80-something years, with perspective from all vantages in between, and the entire gamut of emotions. This is a thoroughly delightful book which I highly recommend.I think Joan's tardiness in publishing her work stemmed from a belief (wrong) that her poems weren't really poetry because they didn't fit the strict definition of rhyme and meter. She is not that kind of poet; her verse is unbound and unfettered but is undeniably poetic, both in language and emotional impact.Although her book will be treasured by the women who own it, I can also recommend it for men who want to understand women.

I enjoyed the smells of the smoke house, and the taste of the chicken eggs, (as it all disintegrates before my eyes). I missed the loved ones gone, but hopefully not forever, and I, like you, felt the presence of the man in the moon. You, my Emily Barrett Browning, have given me new poetry to love and cherish. My heart lives, and loves and cries and smiles again. As we read great poetry we put our own experiences into it and it has meaning to each heart that interprets it… as only an individual heart can… and I pray that all the hearts who read it have at least one parrot to bathe in the end… and if no parrot exists for them, then may the WORDS of this great song be the parrot that fills their hearts with love, friendship and happiness forever… because there is nothing better than a great book of poetry. She is funny, so deeply aware and a real woman who knows a real man - and all our foibles. I read this book to feel good and at peace with my past and my future. By Amy Carpenter-Leugs These poems are haunting and clear -- even those who aren't familiar with poetry will find Crowd of Sorrows to be easily understood. The poems take us through the narrative as told by a little girl who is surviving sexual abuse by her grandfather. Over time the girl grows up, tells her secret, and observes all the ways she is changed by what has happened to her. The book is beautifully produced and rich with Lisa Gundry's well-wrought images and memorable voices. Many survivors of sexual abuse will find validation and understanding of their experience here, and anyone who loves a survivor or wants to understand them better will be moved and shaken by this collection.

3 of 3 people found the following review helpful. Beautifully written! By Kate Sinkins Lisa's book captures the essence of a young girl who doesn't understand what is happening to her. She moves into how family relationships are affected and how she has worked to process these events that should never happened to anyone. She writes with grace and anger and empowerment and forgiveness. It is not a book you can read all at once but something to return to when you want to see how powerful words can be. I highly recommend it and can't wait for her next book!
