You've felt it-love so strong you ache with the fullness of it as if you're trying to contain a power ten times your size and are unable to do so. Where does such powerful love come from? What is there beneath the surface we sometimes sense but rarely hold? Is there a greater reality around and within us, a uniting energy going far beyond our classical definition of "love"?

Through walking the ancient symbol of the labyrinth, in Finding Love's Way, we explore a wider world where God, ourselves, and love are inseparable one from another, where we see ourselves as beings of divine light, and that even with all the joy and loss we experience, we can never truly be separated from what binds us together: the truth of who we already are and the reality that love itself can be the journey.

When the wine is fine, all the senses are awakened and a symphonic moment lingers. Fine poetry is experienced much the same way. There isn’t a sense of completion, like finishing a story, but a sense of lingering with something ineffable whether simple or complex. Sarah Hoggatt’s book of poems, Finding Love’s Way, brought me to that place many times from the “Forbidden Dance” to “Tree Language” to “Garbage Catches the Light” to “Remorse,” and to “Along the Way.” Sarah is developing as a poet, and in this book she comes into her own providing us a deeply satisfying, sensory journey to an ancient place where yearning for love, both God’s and others’, is tasted and the moment lingers.

For Fans of Gibran and Berry By John Pattison Sarah Hoggatt writes with the prophetic fire of Kahlil Gibran and from a stillness reminiscent of Wendell Berry’s Sabbath poems. The effect is nothing less than the re-sacralization of Life—every step, corner, switchback, and rest.

The collection of poems in Patricia Blanco’s literary debut comes at the reader like an exposed nerve. Her words and turns of phrase layer upon the page, transporting us through her full-throated collage of revelations, heartache and love. This is the kind of book better ingested than merely read, a naked, rigorous desire for awakening through truth. Pluto takes a breathtaking swipe at purging and unburdening, weaving lines through a journey of imagery that often tends to abstraction without losing its emotional impact.

With quotes like " a fog in sigh" By Amazon Customer With quotes like " a fog in sigh", "bodies bloom from the sidewalk", the work is beautifully written with emotional imagery that fills a longing for the deep heartfelt poetry so difficult to find in current literature. My favorites include My Mother, Daddy, City and Divine for their insight and open hearted honesty. I can't say how satisfying it was to read poetry that looks beyond just deconstruction, it comes full circle bringing the reader home to a place of surrender and oneness. That strength, openness and clarity is a rare gift in an artist, something for us all to treasure.I give this 4 stars instead of 5 because there are a few moments where the clarity is lost- they are indeed few and far between. And I also have the feeling that there is a well beneath this first piece and want to read more. That there is an imagery that lies even deeper being unveiled as the artist matures- there is more to come. It is on that feeling that I wait to give out the 5 stars. I hope she keeps writing - I want more.

By 007 I purchased Patricia Blanco's book "PLUTO" on the recommendation of a close friend. Everything in this book is relatable and real. A very sensitive and insightful journey of life. My world is very high pressure - 20 hours a day and six days a week. I have Pluto on my desk and have found myself opening it at the times I feel overwhelmed and tense. Patricia's prose and writing makes me remember what is real. Page 28 titled "My Mother" really got me choked up as it just re-kindles so many great memories. This is the first time I have bought and read a book of Poem's and Prose and I am really happy that I did. Be prepared for a comforting and mind "tickling" experience.

What stays after you close this book is a subtle but strong presence and beauty. The language is exquisite and arresting. Its intense emotional clarity is surprising given the complexities of the emotions it portrays. There is beauty in this book that sinks in and re-writes ache, pain, disappointment, and other awe-feelings like on a pure diamond iceberg. It is highly recommended.

Poetry. The voice of poet John Tynan in these VOICE LESSONS has a natural beauty all its own that is both an innate gift and a moral, as well as technical, achievement: fresh, unspoiled, casual and yet artful, never dry or contrived, always freely flowing, and of a sensibility so kind, humorous, and radically open to experience in its immediacy and depth, that it seems an inseparable, innate part of the poet's character; and yet, again and again, in his reflections, in his lyricism, the burden of experience and memory is acknowledged and overcome by a rededication of self to love and life. If there is a lesson in these LESSONS for his readers, it may be that spontaneity and immediate joy constitute not merely a state of being, but a creative act of becoming.

Exceptionally direct, pure, and well-considered poetry By Jacob Smullyan Tynan's poetry exposes the poet in a way very different than that of the confessional, regurgitative mode that is now popular (because easy); everything he writes is the result of deep reflection and deep honesty -- honesty about aesthetics, about ideas, about the world, and about himself. It is a significant achievement both as art and as life, and I come back to it often.

The reader gets to glimpse at an inner struggle with a liberating ending that will leave readers in tears. Anger, love, fear. Matthew Mejia interweaves beautiful imagery with jarring language in a way that startles a reader to pay attention, to feel, what he is trying to convey. His words make me grin at one moment and tear up at the next. The ending is my absolute favorite. It took me a while to get through the ending from all the times I had to rub my tears away. But it is the very end, the last line, that leaves me a laughing, crying mess from what he did. My emotions are all over the place by the end of it all, but it left me wanting more. I can’t wait to read what he writes next.

A touching memoir on family, love, heartache, healing, and self-discovery By Amazonaholic theFEEL is at once the most outstanding, bizarre, and relatable book I've read in ages. Coming from a place of raw emotion and struggle you really see the dichotomy that everyone faces when viewing themselves both as less-than worthy and also the most worthy. A touching memoir on family, love, heartache, healing, and self-discovery, there's something for everyone to relate to on some level, and something for everyone to admire on every level. Matthew Mejia dares to put out there the darkness that most are too afraid to even acknowledge within themselves, let alone share with others. A great read for anyone at any point in their life but especially those who are going through or who have ever gone through a period of lost sense of self. Read it for yourself and share it with anyone who will listen. You'll be glad you did.

It’s the voice inside our heads that lets us know the truth; the truth we ignore. In an age of fakeness and imitations, theFEEL is just right. We reminisce the many experiences we’ve encountered in our lives and it reminds us that we are still here because we overcame them. Mejia does a fantastic job illustrating his emotions into our imagination. You will feel it. A new way of poetry beyond the fourth wall.

Poetry. "This is a poet unafraid of being understood, who will not hide behind decorativeness or the oblique. Read these poems aloud and you will hear an authentic and quintessentially American voice not only writing but also speaking to you."—Thomas Lux "I take guilty pleasure in the poems of Kevin Pilkington, and consider him an essential voice in contemporary poetry."—Jay Parini "In this rich collection of tender poems, he celebrates the small consolations of daily life that offer spiritual relief in the face of disappointment and loss. There are no easy epiphanies here-just one poet working as hard as he can to get through daily life with dignity and grace."—Jim Daniels

In his collection, THE UNEMPLOYED MAN WHO BECAME A TREE, Pilkington suggests that he is so very much a part of New York City that he is growing out of the walls and sidewalks and benches, unable to transform his state of loneliness and isolation into a life of meaning and worth without the aid of a little magic - magic which he happens to find in the most ordinary places. He turns phrases in the most surprising ways, mid sentence, in unexpected turns in his message, in ways that keep the reader immersed in his odd spaces he creates. And it didn’t surprise that reading his prose as in SUMMER SHARES produces the same emotional impact. He is a writer who not only deserves our attention, but a wordsmith who is definitely a voice of importance in American literature. And now we encounter another rare collection of his poems in WHERE YOU WANT TO BE – and that where seems to be wherever we cast our eyes and fully see and absorb the moment. He has selected new poems (the title groups here), and borrowed from four other collection dating from 1997 to 2011. A selection from his new poems follows:A HEARTFELT THANK YOU TO ALL WOMEN WHO DUMPED MEI want to thank them allfor finding fault with me,pointing out my imperfectionsthen ending it in person, by phoneand even email. To Claudia who fifteen years agolearned in time to despise mefor snoring and sleeping with the windowopen even in winter. And Margotwho was quite tall and duringthe first few months said I was the perfectheight for her but discovered my salaryway too small. Then there was Katewho was in love with David Bowie and eventhough she tried could only love me.So thanks to each and every onefor making sure I wasn’t worth it.If things had worked outwith any of them, I would neverhave met you.Our anniversary is coming soon.Even though you say you wantnothing since what we have between usis gift enough, I plan to go to the shore at midnight, remove as many stars as I can holdbefore rearranging the rest so no onewill notice they are gone. Then I’ll placea dozen or more stars attached to a longstems of sky in the glass vase shapedlike hands at the center of our table filledwith a glittering bouquet of twilight.Reading Kevin Pilkington creates a synergy with the one turning the pages hesitantly, making us wonder if we can go to the next with him - or whether we need to just quietly re-read the little miracles he has created, page by page. His world is abnormally normal - we discover, going back to memorize lines that burned lines in our brains. Grady Harp, January 16

Like Greatest Hits Records By Jason Irwin Like Greatest Hits Records, I usually find selected or collected works of poetry too daunting, preferring small volumes. but Kevin Pilkington's "Where You Want to Be" is different. Having read all his previous volumes I already know that I'll be reading a poet who writes from the gut and the heart. Whether it's poems about his father like "Magis," or "My Father's Hands," or poems about a bar on 2nd Avenue, a love poem, or Mel Torme's voice, each one is alive, turning ordinary ever day experiences into something magical. Take for example "The Unemployed Man Who Became a Tree," "The Way to Heaven," "Where You Want to Be," Apple Spider," "Healthcare," or "Therapy," take any number of poems for that matter, in this fantastic collection and you are in for a delightful surprise. One moment you will laugh out loud, turn the page and feel your heart breaking. Pilkington is an urban poet with the heart and sparsity of the Midwest. All these poems are love stories in one way or another, as he writes in a poem from In The Eyes of a Dog:You got down on your knees and lickedall the words you would never use ontoher legs, a type of love story only youwould ever want to read again. But these are stories you will want to read again and again, stories you may find a piece of yourself in. Little islands of magic that float to the surface and shine. In truth Pilkington is a seeker, sifting through the dark, unexpected places for that sens of meaning we're all looking for, that will make sense of and give our lives meaning.
