"Haiku Nation is a breathtaking collection of powerful modern haiku which challenges the reader to seek out and see the world afresh."

The poems in Haiku Nation offer an intoxicating insight into the ethereal world of haiku. The collection is divided into sections comprising: the Seasons, Mountains, Wanderings and Waterfalling.

The Seasons reflect a deep investigation into the ways of nature and her poetry makes you look at nature with an altered perspective. The haiku ‘see the warm raindrops’ is a dramatic, sensitive reinterpretation of a seemingly normal occurrence. While the poem, ‘gunnera ripples’ offers a beautiful image of the poet caught in a spring shower while walking.

The poet uses the concept of the seasons as a metaphor for the progress of people’s life gently moving from the genteel progress of autumnal existence in ‘elderly couples’ to the fatality of winter and ‘little grey cloud cries’. This concept is handled with great delicacy and beauty is found in all stages of life’s journey.

The Wanderings section reflects this poet’s love of travel with poems written from her visits to Kefalonia, Crete and the Far East. The solitude of the poetic existence is also remarked upon in several haiku such as ‘alone sea watching’ when a beautiful moment is captured forever in words.

"Colourful pictures painted in words...exquisite..." Peter, Devon.

"Highly Recommended! Soul touching poems!" Frances, Kent

P.J. has also embraced the electronic age and had her work published in online Ezines such as Mythical Poetry. She has published one collection of dark romantic and Gothic horror poetry entitled The Wicked Come. Her first haiku collection, Haiku Nation, is a breathtaking collection of powerful modern haiku which challenges the reader to seek out and see the world afresh. Her latest haiku work entitled, Frozen Haiku is a thought-provoking collection of imaginative, visually stunning haiku. Also brilliant and seen through the same eyes which the reader jointly shares. P.J. Reed's anthology, Haiku Nation, is a book of haiku poems. One of the simplest forms of poetry but hardest styles to write. The work here covers nature, emotions and people. There are many memorable pieces in this volume's six themes (Spring, Summer, Autumn, Winter, Wanderings and Waterfalling). One example is the piece on page 41 in the Winter section, it is overly powerful and dark. It reads:drowning with sorrowmy tears would fill an oceanbody why so frailMy first impressions are that the author, P.J., has been hurt immeasurably deeply by a love affair gone wrong. Placed in Winter, did it happen in winter, when the land is desolate and the cold can kill you? Or is the poem about someone or something else? For example, a severe illness? There are poems that balance this out. For example this joyous piece from the Waterfalling theme:orange sunset paintsover sleeping blue waterssun moon lake, nantouThis brings to mind a wonderful time spent at the Sun Moon Lake (in Taiwan). Simple but beautiful imagery straight from the heart. Almost a love poem, for a natural place and time enjoyed. My favourite poem is on page 23, in the Summer part. Being alone and almost in a dark mood is banished by a gift from the moon. Is this unconditional love and a love poem?:I am lonelinessthe kind moon watchesand sends me a shadow friendThe water colour art too adds to the character of the book. Many poetry collections are visually boring, being a mere 'book of words'; Haiku Nation is way more than just words.Highly recommended for haiku poetry lovers and for readers in general. A very enjoyable and warm book. Even the dark pieces of work trigger strong emotions. A follow up volume would be most welcome. Spread the word, P.J. Reed is the haiku poet to read. A contemporary of Vannessa Daou.

This is Heather Awad’s first published collection of poetry. She has been writing for most of her adult life, self-schooled in poetry writing and influenced by some of the greats, such as Billy Collins and Stephen Dunn. Awad’s poetry is simplistic in style yet she manages to pull you into each poem as if you were wandering around inside her mind, seeing the world as she lays it out for you. Much of her work comes from her own life experiences and then some are from her whimsical imagination. The imagery is crystal-clear, as is her own heart which you can see a little of in every one of the sixty-two poems in this collection. Keep it with you wherever you go, to read your favorites again and again.

2 of 2 people found the following review helpful. and decided I liked Anne Sexton's work By bob_the_goon I don't typically read poetry. I mean, I took a modern poetry class in college, and decided I liked Anne Sexton's work, so I bought her collected works, but when I tried to branch out from there, nothing really clicked. So while there are several thousand books in my house, only one of them is a poetry collection, until now. These poems are very easy to read. They're diverse in topic and mood. The author has a gift of making you feel like you're right there with her, walking through a gorge, or spying out the window at people on the streets of New York. A fair number of poems in this collection deal with love, relationships, and romanticism, but never veer into the clichéd unrequited love scenarios or the pathos of love lost."Hummus" covers the awkward dinner with the protagonist dreading her companion's awkward question that's obviously coming, while "No Different From Me" takes a broader view of relationships in general. Other poems, like "New Harlem" and "Dancing to Johnny Cash" hone in on when the moment in a relationship when your realize it's not meant to be, without coming off as bitter, while "Anything" is hopeful and romantic.I don't mean to give the impression that this is a collection about love and relationships, because there is a diverse collection of poems here. The ones above are some of my favorites though. Some of them are short, whimsical pieces that will put a smile on your face. There are great observational pieces such as "Silly Shoes" and "Gas Station Girl" of life filtered through the lense of experience. "The Bus" is maybe the shortest piece in this collection, but one of my favorites. It's a simple observation on how our actions reflect on how we see others. With 62 poems, there's something for everyone here. This is a great book to curl up under a blanket with and read at a leisurely pace, maybe with some hot tea on a lazy rainy Saturday, which is exactly how I read it. It's also a great collection to pick up and just read a single poem or two, something that I find myself doing in the week that I've had it. If this were available in hard copy, it would sit right next to my Anne Sexton's Collected Works book, which would make it even better for leafing through. On the other hand, having it in digital form means it's available wherever I happen to be, be it the lunch room at work, or sitting on the steps waiting for a ride.Even if you're not a fan of poetry, I highly recommend this collection. I typically am attracted to the darker things in life, which this most certainly is not, and I really like this. There's a lot to be said for the power of a short string of words to put a smile on ones face.

The author is very honest and real in her poems, giving them an intimate feel. She has a fluid, steady flow to her words, where one line carries seamlessly into the next. There is an abundance of rich imagery which lifts off the page. Just lovely. There is also some pieces that will put a smile on your face, which I found to be just the right complement to the more sentimental pieces. I would definitely recommend this collection as a must read for anyone who loves poetry. The author graciously provided me with a copy for my unbiased review.

These 62 contemporary poems are primarily free verse, easy to read, and intensely relatable. In many of the poems I found something that stabbed me with familiarity, which is the duty of poetry; to give us something to connect to. I profoundly saw my best friend in "Taughannock Falls", I felt the voice of Raymond Carver in the poems "New Harlem" and "Brown Grass", and within "Hummus" (my favorite piece in Awad's debut collection) I truly believe those final two lines are some of the finest I've read in recent memory. Just ... perfect.Awad's bio on the back of the book says she has another collection in the works for Fall 2016. I'll be waiting. My favorite poems in this collection are: "Hummus", "Closer Now", "Daisy Fields", "Anything", "New Harlem", "Brown Grass", Taughannock Falls", and "Leftovers".

“One Point of View” is a collection of poems, reflections, and narratives that have taken a lifetime to create and collect. Many of them are deeply connected to my years working among the homeless in the city of Boston, Massachusetts. Others are born out of those special moments when the heart is touched by a place, by a moment, or by a spoken word. All are the written framework for the sometimes difficult, often amazing experiences of my life. If you find the book disorganized, that's great. It is written and complied as a mirror of life itself, not always organized, neat, and orderly. Note: The names of those people I have known and written about in this book have of course been changed.

One Point of View, by Ron Tibbetts

About the Author Ron Tibbetts was born and raised in the small town of Norfolk, Massachusetts, while today he is a resident of the nearby town of Plainville. Writing has, as he says, “always been a part of [his] life, a way to sort things out.” After many years as a volunteer in the homeless community, in 2001, Ron left his work in the corporate world and became the executive director of a thriving mission to the poor and the homeless of Boston. To Ron, the job was much less a leadership job but a frontline, boots-on-the-ground learning experience. With the help of others, Ron has founded what might have been the first ever book club for the homeless and two additional urban a missions to low income in the Greater Boston area. “One Point of View” is Ron's first book.

Death touches everyone and leaves no life untouched. We can elude it for a time, postpone it for many a while and sometimes even pretend it does not exist. But it touches us even when its grim icy fingers fall upon another. And those whom it touches leave behind them the memories of who they were. Our love for them is what we remember. Our hope and faith that they continue on after death is what we pray for. For no one gets out of life alive. Yet new life can and does await each of us! At least that is what this poet believes. "Deathlessness" is about experiencing life's many travails and death itself, and suffering the aftermath of those we lose to death

The only truth is that "no one gets out of life alive" and those of us who had spiritual experiences can lighten the way of others. This book is a beacon.
